Hey! My name is Mattie Richardson. People can hardly believe that I’m 24 years old now. I am known as “North Dakota’s Teen Author” since I did a lot of writing in my teenage years and I am currently the author of five books: Appaloosy, Dusty’s Trail, Golden Sunrise, Day and Night, and Blackberry Blossom. I am working on more books (of course) but being a full-time journalist and part-time musician doesn’t leave me as much time as I would like.
I wrote my first book, Appaloosy, when I was thirteen years old, and my venture into author-hood has grown since then. I have been the subject of articles and book reviews, a speaker at schools and events, and attend various events throughout the year.
My goal in my writing is of course, to make a little bit of a living for myself-being an author is my dream. But also it is a goal of mine to encourage other young writers. I started began writing seriously when I was thirteen and published my first book at sixteen. Writing is my passion, and I want other young authors to have the same kind of love for writing that I do.
That’s why I also spend time talking to schools and groups about my writing. If you are interested in having me speak at any event, don’t hesitate to contact me!
But writing isn’t the only thing I enjoy doing. I also play the fiddle and guitar and enjoy performing bluegrass music occasionally. I have two horses currently and horseback riding is one of my absolute favorite things to do.
